We call it PT (Physical Training), you call it working out

This past Thursday I led PT. On Monday, I volunteered to lead the cool-down stretches at the track after interval training (sprint for 60 seconds jog for 120 seconds). I did the extended rectangular formation all wrong by calling right-face when I should have called left-face, TWICE. I needed to redeem myself so I volunteered to lead on a muscle failure day.

I decided I wanted to do circuit training. We have a Sergeant that does a great job leading PT, but he is more than willing to give it up when someone else wants to do it. The last time I lead PT was 2000, so I had to do some FM 21-20 research. That is the official Army Physical Fitness Training manual. There are a ton of exercises, but they rarely get used. The stuff we do on muscle failure days, mostly variations on push-ups and sit-ups. It makes sense because we are tested on push-ups and sit-ups. If you need further explanation read my previous post or check out armystudyguide.com. The events that are rarely used are the buddy assisted exercises. I decided to do circuit training with an emphasis on arms. I had 8 stations where 5 were devoted to arms. My friend, SPC Maine, helped me steal a picnic table from the Air Force Det (they wake up at like 7:00 am...I hate them) we used for dips. Then the other stations were either abs or cardio. Next time, I'd like to do more buddy assisted and cardio like the ski jumper and the cross-country skier.

It seemed to be a good PT session. I didn't mess up any commands and we were done with enough time left on the clock. I did yell several things like, "It's 5:30 and your buddy is in his rack sleeping, but YOU'RE GETTING PAID TO EXERCISE, HOOOAAAAHHHHHHHH."

I thought I had a nice combination of being annoying and funny at the same time. Leslie, I would like something like that to be my epitaph. I'll put that in the will.

DINFOS Update: I am in the radio portion of the course. This part is really fun because I get to push buttons. We are past doing a three minute newscast and are now into music. I get to coordinate spots, talk up songs, AND push buttons. It's really fun and I am sort of dissapointed this portion only lasts until next Monday the 12th of May. If I remember, I'll try and get some video of me during a spot break or something. Let you see me in action.

Royals Update: They won their first game against the Rangers, but then lost the next two because they couldn't score a run. Apparently that's the POINT OF THE GAME. Anyways, the pitchers look pretty good. That's promising, but we can't score a stupid run. Oh well, another year, another losing record in April.

Memorial Day Update: I bought a plane ticket for Memorial Day weekend. I'll be flying into OKC on Southwest because it's way cheaper than anything from a D.C. airport to DFW. My neice, Lydia, is turning one sometime this month. I want to guess the 23rd, but I honestly forgot. I'll be there for her birthday party. Now, I just need to get my commander to approve my pass. I had to write him a letter explaining why I wanted the pass and how great of a student I am. Today, I felt like I should be a dentist because I was pulling so many teeth just to get this stupid pass. It'll be worth it once I get to see the wife, neice, and parents. Too bad I can't round it out by including the in-laws (do I get any points for that comment? :)

It's friday, that means Kareoke. I think I'm going to sing Ben Folds Five Army. The song is great in concert and worth listening to.

Honey, I think I speak for everyone who has ever had to interact with you at 5 a.m. by saying that your comments lean more towards annoying than funny at that hour. But you get an A for effort :-)
Love you!
